ZERO EMISSION BOOK TOUR KICKS OFF JULY 2nd
Author tours innovative green novel, We're Getting On, available July 1
23 towns, 1900 Miles, 50 Days . . . by bike

We're Getting On is the debut novel from promising young Californian author James Kaelan, available from Flatmancrooked Publishing/Ingram beginning July 1, 2010. The novel is comprised of two short stories and two novellas, all with the underlying theme of, as explained perfectly by Emerson College's Vernacular blog, "mainstream and 'counter-' Twenty-First Century [culture's hostility toward] both love and power [except as] a means to self-destruction." The novel has been receiving advance praise from Poets & Writers Magazine ('First Fiction' cover story in the upcoming July/August 2010 issue), The Millions, Pank Magazine and The Rumpus, amongst many others. The first edition of We're Getting On, available in limited supply with high demand, sports a hand-pressed, birch seed paper cover -- tear off a piece, plant it in the ground and help create something naturally beautiful. Click HERE for information about both editions. We're Getting On is the core of Flatmancrooked Publishing's The Zero Emission Book Project, which strives to prove that publishing can be sustainable -- even beneficial -- to the environment.

Come July 2nd, Kaelan will take We're Getting On on a West Coast book tour, making the entire journey by bicycle courtesy of Cannondale Bikes and Bellwether. An avid cyclist since his collage days on the UC Davis team, Kaelan wanted to tour the novel without creating any unnecessary carbon emissions, going as far as not using a phone, computer or a car. He will also not sleep indoors for any part of the tour, opting to bunk at family-owned farms each night, spotlighting farmers who are striving to grow food sustainably. Through 23 cities and for almost 50 days, the author will be joined by cinematographer Miles Kittredge, who will film footage exclusively on Flip Video cameras, which will be compiled into a full-length film premiering at film festivals and releasing on DVD in 2011.

Along the tour route, supporters can sponsor a mile or more with proceeds going to the Pablove Foundation, a non-profit that raises awareness about and funds pediatric cancer research. Lance Armstrong is a huge supporter of the cause and has participated in a number of their events. For more information about Pablove, visit their website at www.pablove.org and pledge your donation HERE.
